One of the great things about Florida is the chance to come this close to nature.   Warning signs at trailheads let the visitor know that he could get bitten by a cantankerous alligator, mowed down by a stampeding bison, or struck by a venomous snake.  For the record, there is no separation between a hiker and wildlife, and it is up to the hiker to respect the wildlife and not the other way around.  On Paynes Prairie, it is not uncommon for alligators to move away from the waterways and to head onto the trails.

I can’t quite imagine Nature’s Zoo existing in New York or California.
